Bananas and Cancer

Hi, I just received an email and I want to verify its accuracy. According to this email, bananas are healthier for us when they begin to have the dark spots on them...about the time I have to get rid of them! It claims that a truly ripe banana will have those spots, I don't think I buy it, but I couldn't find anything on Snopes telling me if it is an urban legend or not. The email continues to make the statement that when a banana is their definition of ripe, it has increased levels of TNF which is supposed to have anti-cancer properties.

I don't buy it either! If this was true, I would have expected it to hit the news...

Of course you will not hear this on the news. There is too much money in Cancer research for something as simple as eating a ripe banana to lessen the onset of cancer to make it to the news. How many people would be out of work once a "cure" is announced? The earth will heal you. Yes, there are many illnesses that can be stabilized or cured by know what foods (herbs) to injest or apply. Our society has become so taken over by pharmaceutical companies that we go for the hype. Classic example, when we have a cough the first thing is run to the medicine cabinet for cough syrup. In reality, if you take some Vick's vapor rub and put it on the soles of our feet, put on a pair of socks and go to bed, by dawns early light your cough will be gone or substantially minimal. But you won't hear this on the news either. Why, because Vicks would lose money. I don't think it's urban legend but I would be willing to give it a try. It's better to try and possibly fail than to not try at all. Besides, a banana a day can't do any harm like some of the serious side effects from taking experimental drugs. Think about it.
